What to expect
As a Rheumatologist Dr Barr commonly assesses symptoms of joint pain amongst many other Rheumatological symptoms. Joint pain is a very common problem which can sometimes affect one, several or many joints. When joint pain and other Rheumatological symptoms persist, this can have a significant impact on quality of life, mood, sleep quality, relationships, education and employment. There can be many reasons for persisting symptoms and different treatments are needed for each kind. In general, the sooner the cause is known, the better the outcome. Dr Barr will routinely ask about a broad range of symptoms beyond the joints because Rheumatological diagnoses can and often do affect many areas of the body.
Getting the right diagnosis first time
Dr Barr typically relies upon a detailed personal and family history, physical examination, risk factor assessment, multi-system blood tests, genetic tests, joint and body imaging tests to ensure the correct diagnosis is identified and appropriate treatment is provided.
Getting the right follow up and treatment
After a careful process of assessment and investigation Dr Barr will follow you up and start appropriate treatment for your diagnosis.
